Tracking Potentially Fraudulent Activity

In the past year, our region has seen an increase in fraudulent activity pertaining to real estate transactions. According to a 2025 report from CertifID, “one in four consumers report receiving suspicious messages during a real estate transaction.” As a Vermont REALTOR®, you have access to FOREWARN™ to help avoid real estate scams, but we know that sometimes, individuals can slip through the cracks of that system.

Your business depends on security: from electronic lockboxes, to wire transfers, and even client data storage. NVRA encourages all our members to establish and routinely review security procedures within their offices to help protect your businesses and consumers from real estate fraudsters. NAR has several resources outlining these best practices:

NVRA has created a new resource to add to your toolbox. When you encounter suspicious and potentially fraudulent real estate activity, please submit this information to the NVRA Suspicious Activity Report form. The form will be permanently linked in the FORMS section of our website and available on the Member Portal. NVRA Members will be able to access a spreadsheet tracking this information via the Member Portal at any time.

Thank you for your partnership to keep our community safe from fraud!
